Discovery 2 Td5
June 2025— The day has arrived I am able to source this 2023 Land Rover Discovery 2 Td5 from an online advertisement. (195,000KM) The truck was located in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Unfortunately, the truck does not have a service history, apart from being quite “stock” looking, however; the engine is not very sound!
I always has a soft spot for a old Discovery truck, particularly the series II, its not a show car, just a dependable, a charming truck! In terms of what I bought it for, I am prepare to spend times and money to gradually restore and replace the ageing parts…

Indeed, the Discovery 2 requires plenty of attention: For a 23 years old truck, the first few projects include renewing the engine oil, transmission oil and filters, the front knuckle upper and lower ball joints, CV boots and oil seals, new drag link, new steering rod ball joints, steering damper, injector wiring harness, interior fuse box, x4 power windows motor and regulator. I drove to Hatyai in July 2025, to “test drive” the reliability of this engine, replace with new BF Goodrich AT KO2 tires 265/65 R18 in Thailand. So far the truck handle satisfactory.
Late August 2025, we embarked on another month long road trip to Thailand. Unfortunately, the truck experience water oozing out from the expansion tanks… over heating issues! Long story short, the truck still able to endure the drive from Malaysia to Bangkok, where she will be in good hands at Prachun Auto Services in Nothaburi.
Unfortunately, the best option is to purchase a half-cut td5 engine from Japan. They are readily available at the workshop. Meanwhile, I hand over the new spare parts, like the injector copper washers and o rings, water pump, viscous fan, radiator, etc. They did a wonderful job assembling the engine back! Success mission!
June 2026— Update on the Discovery 2 td5, due to intermittent starting issues, Tong, the mechanic in Johor, suggest that I replace the ‘red’ ECU wiring harness as it has age, the wires are harden and some are already perish. It was a good decision, at the same time, he suggested also replacing the Fuel pump and injector wiring harness.
